Who We Are
A Texas Portrait Studio Since 1928
“Portrait Photography is a tool for recording the story we try to tell posterity-a story not of features alone, but of the human force behind those features”-Paul Gittings, Sr.
Paul Gittings, Sr. was born in 1900 and at the age of 11, starting taking odd jobs to help support his family. He ended up at the famed Bachrach Studios in Baltimore, taking a job as a plate boy and eventually becoming an esteemed photographer, which was the beginning of his true career and passion. In 1928, he moved to Texas and opened studios in Dallas and Houston, purchasing the rights for these studios from Bachrach and opening them under his name, Gittings.
Gittings and Bachrach are the only two portrait studios in America still standing from that era

Family Photoshoot FAQs
What kind of photography does Gittings do?
Gittings creates fine art portraits, including family portraits, professional headshots, and large-format traditional wall portraits. Digital images are available, but our focus is tangible, wall artwork, so most of what you take home is meant to be displayed.
Does Gittings offer both family portraits and professional headshots?
Yes. On the family side, we photograph children, pets, couples, multiple generations, and individuals. We also offer professional headshots for local attorneys, executives, and other DFW professionals.
Do you offer on-location photography?
Yes. In addition to studio sessions, we photograph on location, whether that’s your home, a favorite park, or another meaningful location.
Can I bring family or friends to my session?
Yes. Many clients bring loved ones along, whether for moral support or to join a group portrait. This is welcome for both headshot and family portrait sessions.
What does the session fee cover?
For family portrait sessions, the fee does not include your portraits. Portraits are selected and purchased separately at a private Portrait Screening appointment. For headshot sessions, the fee often includes one retouched image, with additions and other options available.
How long until I receive my headshot?
Most headshot sessions include one retouched image, typically delivered within 2 to 3 business days. Family portrait sessions run on a different timeline, since portraits are viewed and chosen together at a separate Screening appointment a few weeks after your session.
How do I schedule a family portrait session?
Select your preferred studio for additional scheduling information, in general, scheduling with Dallas or Fort Worth is typically done by phone. Dallas and Fort Worth Studios are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Houston is open Monday through Friday by appointment and you may schedule a discovery call online.
How long has Gittings been in business?
Gittings was founded in 1928 and has operated continuously for nearly a century, making us one of the longest-running portrait studios in the country.
