SPOTLIGHT: Jan Florence Gittings Global, Texas

While you won’t find her behind a camera, Jan Florence has been a critical team member for 24 years, keeping our accounting in good shape. We appreciate her dedication and the fact that she doesn’t take a creative approach to her work like the rest of us at Gittings. Happy Anniversary, Jan!

Learn more about Jan in this Q&A.

Where are you based?
I am based out of my home in Houston. I was actually working from home before the Covid shut down.

How many years have you been working for Gittings?
I have been with Gittings since Feb. 1998 so 24 plus years.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever visited?
Yellowstone National Park would have to be the most unique place I have ever visited. The diversity of geographic features found there is incredible not to mention the abundant wildlife.

By being exposed to photography shop talk, has it influenced you to dabble in photography?
I feel like everyone dabbles in photography these days with their smartphone. Funny thing I’m conscious of now when taking people’s photos is hand placement. I am so remedial in landscape photography that I still use the rule of thirds my brother taught me in high school.

What is your favorite vacation destination?
Probably my favorite place to visit is Fort Davis in west Texas.

Have you picked up any new skills or hobbies over the last few years?
Sewing is an old skill, but I had more time for it when we were shut down due to Covid. I dabbled a little in quilting.

Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you take your coffee?
Coffee – a little stevia and almond milk. I won’t be old until I learn to drink it black.

What is your favorite aspect of working with Gittings?
Favorite aspect of working for Gittings – it has been fascinating to observe over the years the more creative/entrepreneurial minds (Greg and others) find innovative ways to generate income in the years of economic downturn. There isn’t a great deal of creativity in accounting or at least there shouldn’t be.
