A pet settles into a house until they are part of its shape. A portrait gives them one more place, this one on the wall, where they stay as the years move faster than any of us want. Gittings has crafted portraits for Dallas and Fort Worth families and their pets since 1928. We’d love to photograph yours as well.

Get up to $500 Towards Your Pet Portrait Photography Order When You Reserve a Session

Gittings sessions are available year round, but, between July 18 and August 22, 2026, your session fee for a pet portrait applies as a credit toward your finished portraits. Studio sessions are $300. Location sessions are $500.

The session fee is non-refundable and the pre-tax amount applies as credit toward finished portraits only. It does not apply to digital images. Portrait credit valid only toward orders from this session and orders placed before October 1, 2026.

What to Expect from Your Portrait Session

Design Consultation

Before your session, you’ll meet with your photographer to plan every detail. From where your portrait will hang to wardrobe, groupings, and overall mood, this is where your vision takes shape.

Your Session

Your session is a relaxed, guided experience in studio or at the location of your choosing. Your photographer brings the plan to life, working with you to capture something that feels true to who you are.

Portrait Screening

At a separate in-studio appointment, you’ll view your finished portraits with a Portrait Consultant who helps you select the right pieces for your home. This is where you choose sizes, framing, and products, and where your order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a pet portrait session cost?

A studio session fee is $300, and an on-location session is $500. That fee covers the session itself with your photographer. Your finished portraits are selected separately at your private Screening appointment, where you’ll choose the pieces and sizes that suit your home. We’ll walk you through everything beforehand so there are no surprises.

What if we have multiple pets?

Whether it’s one dog, a houseful, or a horse for an on-location session, let us know who’s coming during your design consultation so your photographer can plan the groupings and the pacing around them.

Do you photograph cats and other animals, or only dogs?

We photograph the whole family, whatever form it takes. Dogs, cats, horses, and the less expected members are all welcome. Tell us about your pet when you schedule so we can prepare the right setting.

What if my pet is nervous or won't sit still?

Nervous or wiggly is completely normal, and our photographers are used to it. We work at your pet’s pace, use treats and breaks, and never force a pose. Tell us about your pet’s temperament at your consultation so we can plan a calm setting and the right timing. Some of our favorite portraits come from pets who needed a moment to settle in.

What is a design consultation?

Your Design Consultation is a dedicated conversation with one of our portrait specialists before your session. We’ll discuss your family’s personality, wardrobe, the style direction you’re drawn to, and how you envision displaying your portrait in your home.

It's so hot in Texas. What are our options for staying cool?

The studio or on-location in your home are the easiest choices in peak summer, and both keep your pet comfortable. If your heart is set on the Fort Worth courtyard or a full outdoor portrait, we’ll plan it for early morning when the light is best and the heat has not reached its full peak. Your photographer will help you decide at your consultation.

Do you deliver digital files?

Gittings is a portrait studio first, so our focus is finished, heirloom-quality pieces made to be displayed: wall portraits, albums, desk portraits, and more. Digital images are available to purchase as well, but the artwork your photographer creates for your walls is the heart of what we do. Your photographer and consultant will help you choose what’s right for your home.

What appointments do I need to schedule?

There are three appointments in your experience: your Design Consultation, your Portrait Session, and your private Screening & Selection appointment.

How long until we see our images?

Your private Screening appointment is typically scheduled at our studio within a few weeks of your session. We’ll walk you through your images, side by side, displayed in our theater style screening room together. This is one of our favorite moments to share with families.

What if we need to reschedule?

Running late or need to reschedule?

We understand our clients are very busy and work, family and other unforeseen events can arise unexpectedly. If you’re going to be 15 minutes or more behind or need to reschedule, please give us a call and we’ll do our best to work with you.

Need to cancel?

Cancellations or missed appointments without 48 hour notice will be charged a cancellation fee in the amount of 50% of the normal session fee for the session type.  ($150 for studio sessions and $250 for location sessions)

Please understand that your portrait session time was set aside just for you and since sessions are often booked far in advance, we are not always able to schedule another portrait session for your reserved Photographer’s time.
